A Konstantinos Tzimpeas is attested for the year 1279 as Apographeus in Thessaloniki, whereas a member of the same family named Theodoros is attested in 1304 as servant of the emperor. The family name may be connected to the fortress Tzympe (Çimpe) on the Gallipoli peninsula
